Stylist Julie Hannah showcases Summer Essentials: part 1

I don’t know about you, but I’m counting down the days until my summer holidays. The tickets are booked, the suitcases are on standby, and my slightly OCD outfit planning has begun in earnest.

I’ll be at St. Enoch Centre all weekend (18th and 18th June), hosting Summer Style workshops and fashion shows from 12-4pm each day. I can’t wait to share all my fashionable finds with you face-to-face, but in the meantime I thought I would give you a sneak peek over the next few days of the looks I’ll be showcasing. First up…

The Beach Getaway

If you’re heading off on a beach holiday this summer, now is the perfect time to find some great buys. The summer sales are kicking-off this week and with a little savvy shopping you can create a chic, capsule wardrobe on a shoestring.

Maxi dresses are always a favourite of mine when the heat is on. Look for lightweight, floaty fabrics that will help you keep your cool when the temperatures rise.  What’s great about maxis is that they’re so versatile. Fling one on over your bikini when you’re beachside, add heels and a clutch for night, or team with a denim jacket and flats for a spot of sightseeing.

This palm-print dress from H&M really hits the holiday vibe (and isn’t it handy that it coordinates perfectly with my favourite tanning lotion?).

I like to keep it really simple when I’m wearing prints. If you’re trying to streamline your luggage, it’s always good to take some simple-but-stunning pieces of jewellery and accessories that you know you’ll be able to wear again and again such as an elegant pendant and maybe a delicate bracelet for the perfect finishing touch.

Raffia shoes and bags are always a great buy for holidays, because they’re super-lightweight and they go with absolutely everything. This raffia pouch is perfect for stashing all your essentials in at the beach, but it will work as a clutch bag in the evening too.

Packing light is a priority these days. Who wants to spend the first fifty quid of their holiday money on excess baggage? I’m a little bit in love with Fossil’s crisp, fresh 1954 fragrance, and because it comes in a handy travel-size roll-on, it’s just the thing for freshening up on the beach and slipping in your teeny-tiny clutch bag at night.

Top off your beach look with a timeless pair of tortoiseshell sunnies and you’re good to go!
